Why do I need day 2 and 8 tests?

Following the release of the Government’s red, amber and green travel lists, regulations vary between different airlines and countries. Therefore, we advise that you regularly check the Foreign Office Website for guidance well in advance of your travel. In order to leave quarantine (if required), you should isolate for the full 10 days. How do the travel lists work?

If you are not familiar with the different travel list requirements, don't worry - we have defined them below to keep you informed.

Red List

You should not travel to countries or territories on the red list. If you are returning to the UK from a red list country, you are required to isolate for 10 days on your return. Before you travel, you are required to book your quarantine hotel package, as well as taking a Covid test. Upon your return, you will complete your isolation period in the hotel. Moreover, you must book two Covid tests, to be taken on day 2 and day 8 of your isolation; you are also required to fill out a passenger locator form.

Amber List

You should also not travel to these countries or territories. If you are returning to the UK from an amber list country, you must take a Covid test and fill in your passenger locator form. On arrival, if you are not fully-vaccinated, you are required to isolate at home, or within one fixed location, for 10 days. This will be in addition to taking your day 2 and day 8 tests. You can also stop your isolation in its tracks on day 5 with a Test to Release. If you are fully-vaccinated, you are not required to isolate; you only need to take your day 2 test.

Green List

If you are looking to travel for business or a holiday, you are permitted to travel to countries on the green list. Before you return to the UK, you must take a PCR test, as well as booking your day 2 test. A day 8 test is not required. You must also fill out a passenger locator form, however you do not need to isolate.
